Modern Combat launched in North America on PS2 and XBox on October 24th 2005 - very nearly 7 years ago.
It was released in Europe about 4 weeks later on November 18th.
And on Xbox 360 in April 2006.
I started playing in November 2006, so in gamer years I was a late starter.
While I was trying to learn there were terrible problems with the servers; you couldn't pick a map or a game mode, but had to rapidly press the join any game button and then get landed into a random game. I employed the pneumatic drill method of rapid button-pushing pioneered during the 80's on arcade games such as Track and Field.
I would often arrive on a capture the flag map not having the slightest clue where the enemy or my team mates were, let alone the bloody flags. Try learning how to toggle weapons etc and look around with a survival time of approximately 20 seconds per spawn
No gentle introduction via Backstab MEC side conquest mode for this noob.
Did anyone play this game right from the start? How did you know about it? What were the early days like?
I think I knew about it because my friend had played BF on PC for some years and then got MC for Xbox 360. I had a PS2 so got that hooked up to MC. Before that I had only played Socom 2 Navy Seals online. Which I didn't particularly like. No tanks lol.
